Solar Eclipse in Aries

New Moon, Partial Solar Eclipse

As you can visually see with the chart below, there is a lot of energy focused in Pisces and Aries. This eclipse event is happening in Aries with Mercury, and Neptune the day after. Pisces/Aries. Endings/Beginnings. Closing/Starting. Dying/Birthing. The end of a cycle/a new one starting, but there is more energy in the endings, closings and clearing out so that those new beginnings can have space to manifest.

It’s like there’s a threshold of a door and everyone wants to walk through it all at once, not gonna happen. All these planets are too big to waltz through this little door! It’s like the hyperbole of entering the “Kingdom of God” through a keyhole with a camel. You can’t take everything with you. And further still you can’t take your Ego identity. Further still, you as Ego doesn't exist, therefore you arrive in an instant with the sudden realization that you are all of everything there is. No you. Or, you are everything. As Alan Watts liked to say, “You’re it.” This is the spiritual theme of Pisces.

On the other side of that threshold, that door, is Aries. The door of "Becoming." From “all is One,” to the "separate" felt YOU, self identity and ego emerges, the biggest illusion (Pisces) to Humankind. One thing we can take with us is the Wisdom of Self-realization as the Universe doing its thing. In Zen they say, “ First there is a mountain, then there is no mountain, then there is." (also song lyrics by Donovan. Here is my version below. A portion of the proceeds go to Huntington's Hope (HDSA), that offers financial support for those with Huntington's disease.)

With Aries, we have this eclipse happening in the starting sign of the Zodiac and this event as a New Moon is also a starting Moon cycle. We do though have some “hold back” to deal with and assessment still for movement forward as we have retrograde personal planets and a stellium group of planetary energy still in Pisces.

As this cycle begins Neptune will be changing signs into Aries as well which is a big shift. Eclipses bring forth big change and shifts of energy to begin with.

Shifts of Change from The Old

There’s an element of self-sacrifice. A letting go. In all the ways that we grow, we leave a part of us behind to shift into new ways of being. This is normally felt so subtle as this sort of thing happens throughout our life as our growing self. Many of us can say that we are not the same person we were 14 years ago. 

This eclipse energy can possibly be more of a shift that comes to consciousness quickly and or impulsively for everlasting change. A new focus of will is possible. The past gets left behind. Whether we're talking about our past or ways that we have been on a personal level, there is most always a resistance for change and for the new. It may be a time for radical forgiveness of another, or to ourselves, for something in the past. Sometimes we can be so hard on ourselves or feel guilt about our past.

There can be a sadness for what is leaving, ending in ourselves and in our outer world or how we personally are and operate on a daily basis. With surrender can come sadness. Compassion and self-love in these matters is an important aspect through our grief and for our growth. It can be a feeling of withdrawal with loss. Yet Aries with its impulsive go go energy need says, like the Huey Lewis 80’s hit song, “I Wanna New Drug.” Aries can have us excited about something to go for or create and get right into it, but there is a part of us that we may feel that is so important to our identity, that shifting to new ways might feel threatening to ourselves on a deep level. What are the things we identify with or as? What are we, or can we be, without them?

With the new, and with growth, we charter into unknown ways of being, that’s what makes change so challenging, it comes with the pull of resistance on some level. We leave the comfort zone and the familiar territory. Aries is an explorer, it wants and needs freedom and a light backpack, or leaves without one all together, on an impulse adventure and does so independently. We don't need all the answers to take the first step in doing something, one thing leads to the next and we learn as we go, or later after the fact, in Aries case.

With Pisces, our Higher selves, or maybe our ideal self for some of us, can become real in as quick as an instant when we choose, daily as a practice, to maintain this ideal or Higher self in with new ways of thought and mostly here with this eclipse energy, action.

Solar Eclipse Symbolism

The Moon can symbolically mean the Ego, it’s what we know, it’s our daily being, our habits, and our emotional selves. Aries too is more personal, Ego and self oriented.

In a Solar Eclipse, the Sun, our vitality, our energy essence, our identity, our consciousness, gets blocked by the Moon. The “dark side” of the moon, our subconscious, the part we don’t see, the seemingly negative aspects of ourselves, the dark and battered craters and scars of the Moon, faces the Sun. It gets warmth, it gets energized with new energy, it gets new light. It gets seen. It gets a "Sun bath." That “dark side” gets its moment in this flood light and absorbs what the Sun can offer, it burns off unnecessary things, here purifying with the extreme heat of the Sun and Aries fire.

The Sun works the Moon, and the Moon rebirths the Sun, as the Moon passes in front of it. It’s mutual work. It's mutual care. It’s mutual transformation. The Moon gives the Sun a little break. Even the Sun gets a little rest. It needs it as it revitalizes itself with the high energy of Aries. The Sun had a moment to gain illuminated “dark side” energy to see its other side. The Sun gets a moment to receive light from its own reflection. It’s the only time the Sun gets to truly see itself in a holistic way.

Me, my identity, my vital personal energy, the person I am, the person I perceive myself to be, my personal familiar "home", gets its moment of reflection. It gets its moment of seeing how it's been and how it’s been operating and recognizes these aspects of itself and can and burn off and purify what is no longer useful or necessary, for not only this New Moon Cycle but, for the new year and beyond. Accepting parts of ourselves or release from them, assess this.

Neptune Moves into Aries

Neptune in particular is playing a major role as it shifts into Aries right after this eclipse. It will return to its home of Pisces again briefly before starting its full new cycle through the Zodiac. Through Aries for the next 14 years, it can be working on dissolving parts of our identity. It can be dissolving illusions we’ve had about ourselves. It can be dissolving parts of our identity that aren’t supposed to be moving forward so we can grow in new ways. It will dissolve and purify aspects of ourselves that we have held so close so that our pure essence can shine forth. Like in a movie, a new character can emerge. Again, think of all the things we "identify" with. Assess those things.

-Identity shifts, endings and becomings. Or being confused about who you are.

Becoming the dream, the fantasy, making dreams real by putting them into action.

-Support to act in doing things that align with your Higher self.

-Although a new focus of will from a Higher self, from a place that is spiritually driven or of being a vessel for God’s will, or as as a “co-creator,” it is possible there can also be a dissipation of will or lack there of.

-We can be disillusioned. That Ideal, is not real. Or we get let down because we hold something or someone, or ourselves, to such high standards, that let-downs become inevitable. Or we have an ideal that we feel we have to live up to that others have put on us, or that we have built upon ourselves. Perfection can be a limitation. It can be a limitation we put on people or ourselves. It can be good to strive for though or be a guiding aspect for our lives with daily decisions that match that ideal. Remember the dark side of the Moon mentioned above? We have to learn to accept all of people as they are, shortcomings, imperfections and scars and all. We are the negative things and the positive things. Everyone has personal lessons. When we accept all these things within ourselves in a holistic way, we can be this compassionate high love for ourselves and others. Refusing to see, or acknowledge, our aspects that aren't "total gold” blocks us from accepting ourselves and others as they are.

-New ways of being creative. Big creative starts. Limitless creativity with freedom to do so and independently. Self-expression gets a boost through art, music, writing, film, dance etc. Or “I’m an artist,” “I’m a musician,” “I’m a dancer.”

-Expressing Spirit, love and compassion, becoming and identifying with Spirit and love itself and acting in such ways. A time for self-compassion and forgiveness or being that compassion for others.

-Being an inspiration for others. Being as our authentic selves can be inspiring to people.

-For some, addictions, drug and alcohol use, escapism habits and victim mentalities can rise impulsively or become an “identity” for you or others close to you, or you can be seen or labeled as such.

-Some can be in a time period of being totally spaced out, out of touch, lack of will.

-This can be a time to use your physical energy to be of service to something bigger than yourself that helps the masses, or to identify with a larger population. A Universal identity. Or that a global loss, gain or happening of sorts brings us all together.

-Here too is a time to “spiritualize” as you can choose to be identifying more with Spirit and become more conscious of your connection with God, Source, Nature. Self-discovery. Chartering into new territories of your heart and Spirit. The dissolving of self, the Ego. Spiritual exploration.

-A time to tap into having trust and faith in forces bigger than yourself and going with the flow.
